Desensitizing Of The Mass Media

Most people who hear, read and or see about events like, the violence on television rarely give it a second thought.   TV is just one way the mass media changes us.
People see dead people lying in groups; you see bomb destruction and horrific situations and people rarely process the whole amount of information being given to you.
We are desensitized because we are constantly being bombarded with news like this. We dismiss is rather quickly because in our minds we feel are hands are tied and we are trapped for many reasons. We might be going to a job that is demanding, have children and have many other important issues on our plates and do not have time to think about these issues. If we only heard about these issues once in a great while we then may act on those   issues in a way which we would   push our elected officials to act.

Media's Impact on Children

Prone is causing violent acts. This also applies to sex. Children see sex happening on television all the time and they start to that sex is the "norm" believe in society.

Desensitization is the process by which a person grows more us
The media is to blame because the repeated showings of violence on the news, in television shows, in theatrical movies and wrestling programs may cause children who are watching them to become used to the violence.
There are more ed to something.

Desensitization

Desensitization is defined as a psychological process that has often been involved in explaining viewers’ emotional reactions to media violence. Research on emotional reactions to violent messages has been concerned with the possibility that continued exposure to violence in the mass media will result in desensitization, that is, that exposure to media violence will undermine feelings of concern, empathy, or sympathy that viewers might have toward victims of actual violence.

Media Violence Affects Inner-City Youth

In our society, violence has become an aesthetic. Movies sell based on their gore factor, or their body count. The human body loses its sacredness as we are titillated by the carnage on-screen.
Those who have witnessed real violence tell a different story. The following essay asks us to recognize the desensitizing impact of media violence, and to envision an alternative way of art and life.

Media Sterotyped

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.
But stereotypes can be problematic. They can:
  • reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations
  • transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"
  • be used to justify the position of those in power

More often than not, the groups being stereotyped have little to say about how they are represented.

Media Violence

Whether or not exposure to media violence causes increased levels of aggression and violence in young people is the perennial question of media effects research. Some experts, like University of Michigan professor L. Rowell Huesmann, argue that fifty years of evidence show "that exposure to media violence causes children to behave more aggressively and affects them as adults years later." Others, like Jonathan Freedman of the University of Toronto, maintain that "the scientific evidence simply does not show that watching violence either produces violence in people, or desensitizes them to it."

Does television Desensitize people?

I think people are desensitized by TV, you hear of a murder on the news and all you think is . Aww that sucks, but if it happened to anyone in your family you would bawl your eyes out. Because it's on tv or in the news paper it's not being pronounced to you personaly, but any death that is deserving to be personaly felt because they deserve that kind of compassion. Despite their past life or current live, any situation involving death should be felt. Only the very worst situations , like someone who kills , rapes, or robs should be ignored.
